5 Things @bushcraftkelso
Never Leaves Home Without
Everyday carry (EDC) or every-day carry is a collection of useful items that are consistently carried on person every day. The main reasons for having EDC are utility and preparedness; to help individuals overcome simple everyday problems, including possible emergency situations.
First off, I want to say I carry so much stuff it’s crazy, and I’m okay with that. However, if I have to choose five items, I can easily do that too. I break my EDC down into “pockets,” front right, front left, etc. My front right is my “most used items” pocket. I also carry the normal items like my wallet, a multitool, and a belt knife.
I also carry items that I tend to use relatively often: Multicard Striker, Flexcut Carving Jack, a small stuffed gnome, piece of a birthday whistle, fingernail clippers, a plastic cordage maker from Grim Survival , P51 can opener, 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ Ferro rod and a small stone that I picked up in Colorado that doubles as a bearing block and a burnishing stone. I also wear a hat that’s full of gear made by Wazoo Survival Gear and a solid 3 lbs of bracelets that serve a specific purpose.
But if I couldn’t take all of that, the five items I would put at the top of the list are…
Top Of The List:
1.) Swiss army knife Farmer X w/ whistle, ferro rod, scraper, and glow bead
2.) Full size Bic lighter w/ tape, waxed hemp, and ranger band
3.) My Magic String – 8′ hank of paracord w/ hardwood toggle with a piece of fat wood and small piece of leather.
4.) Flashlight – Olight i5t AA
5.) Belt knife – Kelsmuk / LT Wright Knives
I understand the items I mentioned are more small groups of items than single tools but I don’tI understand the items I mentioned are more small groups of items than single tools, but I don’t dismantle them nightly and reassemble them again before I leave home. So to me, they are “one item.”
The beautiful thing about EDC is the amount of personality one can implement into his or her carry. The fact that the pockets we fill do, in fact, belong to us allows the filler of said pockets to do so with whatever they deem important. Does everyone need to carry a stuffed gnome? Yes. Well, if they want to. Above are the items that make me feel comfortable. I hope everyone can be comfortable being uncomfortable for the sake of comfort.
